Vera Mock

Vera Mock loved her big family. She was one of 10 children: Mansel, Merle, Mildred, Louella, Doris, Dorothy, Melvin, Betty, and Jean. She had three children: Bob, Bev, and Debbie. Four grandchildren: Jamie, Misty, Courtney, and Zac. Two great grandchildren: Daphne and Grahm. And many nieces and nephews.

She grew up spending time singing with her sisters. They were known as the Negley Calvary Singers on the radio on Saturday mornings. She was in a number of choirs and trios. Her grandkids remember her playing the guitar and even yodeling sometimes.

She had a love for her Lord and Savior and enjoyed listening to gospel music. She also enjoyed writing letters to the Editor in the Indiana Gazette, reminding its readers that hope will be found if you only look up.

She was very active in mind and body. She loved to play lawn jarts and cornhole with her family at holiday picnics. She always had a silly or sarcastic joke at the tip of her tongue and when she got to laughing, it was contagious to everyone around her. She was an avid fan of her Pittsburgh sports. Even when she grew tired as a game was going into overtime in the late evenings, she wouldn’t let that stop her. She would retire to bed and continue to listen to the game on the radio.

She is fondly remembered, missed, and loved by her family who still talk of the beautiful memories she left us with on a daily basis — The taste of her perfect pies that she made with love and by memory without a recipe are greatly missed at every family gathering. Her astonishing ability to get any stain out of anything. Her knack to fix anything broken with duct tape. Her talent to tune a guitar by ear.

105 years was an incredible blessing but no amount of time was ever going to be long enough for the loved ones she leaves behind on Earth. We all look forward to seeing her once again in Eternity.
